Obituary for Missie Manion

Missie Manion
Missie “Lorraine” Manion (Cork) was born June 14, 1930 in Star Lime Works, Kentucky; to proud parents Lula and Herbert Cork Sr. She spent the early years of her life in Terre Haute, Indiana where her five children were born. Lorraine was an extremely hard worker both inside and outside of her home. Lorraine began working at an early age while caring for her children.
In 1970, Lorraine moved to Richmond, California where she had the opportunity to join her adult children. Once in California she fulfilled her desire to further her education. Lorraine attended Richmond High Adult School and obtained her high school diploma. She continued to pursue her education and attended Contra Costa College and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Lorraine enjoyed working with young children and providing in home care support as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Lorraine dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and family. For over 10 years, Lorraine was able to witness and enjoy four generations of her family.
Lorraine was a very kind, loving and supportive mother and grandmother who went out of her way to make sure everyone was cared for. She encouraged her children and loved ones to achieve a good education and follow their goals. She nourished a positive attitude toward life and it’s respective challenges.. She was proud to watch them all grow into adulthood.
Lorraine loved music, dancing, cooking, and fishing. She loved traveling to visit her family who lived out of state. Her ultimate pastime was going to BINGO. She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, and decoding crytoquotes, (one letters stands for another) on a daily basis.
Lorraine had an infectious personality and she was always smiling and laughing. She was very funny and a joy to be around. She had a big heart and gave so much of herself to others with no hesitation. She looked out for her family and they always knew her home was open to them.
Lorraine departed this life on Friday, June 15, 2018. She was preceded in death by two sons: Christopher Manion of Richmond, California, Jonathan Manion of Evansville, Indiana and daughter Mona Leesa Givins of Vacaville, California. She was also preceded in death by her parents Lula and Herbert Cork Sr. of Terre Haute, Indiana and siblings Loretta Martin of Brookport, Illinois; Theresa Vaughn of St. Louis, Missouri; Herbert Cork Jr. of Terra Haute, Indiana; Luther Cork of Terre Haute, Indiana; and grandson Daniel Hutchinson Sr. of Richmond, California.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: son, Arthur (Nila) Givins Jr. of Franklin, Kentucky; and daughter, Janice (Kenneth) Bluford of Tracy, CA.

Grandchildren: Bryan (Linda) Givins; Lisa Thomas; Ida Thomas; Loretta Givins; George Parker IV; Kennisha(Leland) Johnson; Christopher Manion Jr; Jonathan Manion Jr.; Janice Yvonne Bluford; Christian Manion;.; Andrea Givins, Kellie Manion; Jennifer “Cecelia” Givins, Kenny (Ricketa) Bluford Jr.; Chrisean Manion; Chantell Manion, Armani Manion, and a host of great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
