Obituary for Arnold Ira Sprints

Arnold Ira Sprints
Arnold “Arnie” Ira Sprints passed away on August 2, 2018. Arnie was born November 30, 1953 as the son of Harold and Betty Sprints (both deceased) and brother to Martin and Allan (deceased). Arnie married his wife Cathy (Clark) Sprints on November 15, 1987 and they have three children, Roxanne Betty (Ryan), Harold Benjamin (Ilene) and Sarah Ann Louise (Javier). Arnie has five grandchildren, Zoe, Olivia, Morrison, Adrianna and Jacob. Not to be discounted are Harley, Doodle, Alfie and Jose (pets).
Arnie had an encyclopedic type knowledge of sports. If you wanted to know where an athlete went to high school, then college and who they first signed with – he knew and probably had memorabilia to document it. He could’ve been a champion on Sports Jeopardy.
The love of sports flowed through his everyday life – he spent hours upon hours following the events his children were involved in – from baseball to basketball, softball, swimming, football and cheerleading; you could always count on him to be in the stands if he wasn’t on the sidelines. It didn’t stop with just watching his children; for many years he enjoyed umpiring baseball and softball and refereeing basketball. He was active in sports in so many ways.
Sports weren’t his only love. His affinity for music, Slurpees, frozen yogurt and classic films like Animal House, Vacation, and Caddyshack was well known and appreciated by some. Arnie was also a fierce friend to many. His playful, humorous sensibility made him the life of the party. While he would say he didn’t like attention – his actions and dumb jokes proved differently.
Arnie was a proud UNLV Runnin’ Rebel, graduating with a degree in Hotel Administration. He spent his professional life in the restaurant industry. He started his restaurant career with Sizzler, serving as a Manager and then Area Development Manager. During that time he met his wife Cathy. Arnie went on to manage for Chili’s - his self-professed favorite job. After 23 years of managing for other companies, Arnie knew it was time to own his own restaurant. He thrived on the day to day business and interaction with customers – many of whom became dear friends. Maybe this along with his Los Angeles upbringing around places like Tommy, Tito’s, Pinks and Apple Pan contributed to his knack for finding the best little hole in the wall, greasy spoon diners that he couldn’t wait to take his family and friends to.
Recently Arnie retired from the restaurant business and although he didn’t become a train conductor at Disneyland like he always told Zoe he would, he spent time with friends, family, Maury Povich and Jerry Springer.
Above all, Arnie was the bright light, the humor, the silliness, the nick-name king, the family jester, master of the one liner and the family rock.
We miss him, love him and “Sorry folks, the moose out front should have told you.”
